It is storytime boys and girls! When Nadia was looking for her new puppy, Alphonse, she came across an ad on craigslist for two African Grey parrots. Several years ago in Dubai, Nadia bought a parrot as a pet. We went to the Sharjah Bird and Animal Market (an experience worthy of another story at another time m.gulfnews/news/uae/sharjah-bird-and-animal-market-investigated-1.1367000) and while we were looking at parrots, we came across an African Grey. I told Nadia that the only pet I had ever hoped to acquire was an African grey parrot because of my fascination with Alex -the African grey- who had been the subject of Irene Pepperbergs animal language experiments (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_(parrot)) Apparently, Nadia remembered this story and when she saw the African grey parrots, she wanted to get them for me as a birthday present (my birthday is coming up in a few weeks) I will continue the rest of the story in the comments section -- as it is getting rather long.
