It is suggested that stress leads to increased degradation of telomeres, which protect the end of your chromosomes from deterioration. In turn, this could lead to the unwinding of your DNA making you more susceptible to diseases. Recent studies have shown that chronic stress leads to prolonged lowering of p53 levels. P53 is a tumor suppressor protein (encoded by TP53 gene) that acts as the “guardian of the genome” and is involved in preventing cancer… Relax, it’s hump day ;)
