“It is the Spirit Who gives life [He is the Life-giver]; the flesh conveys no benefit whatever [there is no profit in it]. The words (truths) that I have been speaking to you are spirit and life.” John 6:63 (AMP) Everything in life takes balance. There’s the balance between work and recreation, between family and friends, between spending and saving, and the list goes on and on. Everything we do must be in balance. There’s a danger when we focus on any one area of life to excess. Yet what I believe is the most important balance we must achieve in this life, is the balance between living in God’s Word and Walking in His Spirit. The balance of living in God’s Word and Walking in His Spirit is vital; not only to our success in life here on earth but also in positioning us for heaven. Every Christian needs to understand this. It’s God’s Word (The Bible) that gives us the instruction we need in every area of life here on earth. We are conformed into the image of Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, through reading and meditating on the Bible, God’s Word, as our daily routine. It is the standard to which we must adjust our living and our habits. The Holy Spirit is the third person of God’s Trinity. When Jesus was on earth, He promised that He would send His Spirit to us after He had gone back to heaven. The Holy Spirit is the one who gives life to God’s Word. He gives us power of change and to make the adjustments we need to conform to God’s Word. As we begin to apply God’s Word and His standards to each area of our life, the Holy Spirit begins to speak to us about what needs to change. As we begin to agree with His promptings, the power to activate the change is released. Important to remember is the fact that the Father, the Son and the Spirit are one. “Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.” (Mark 12:20- NKJV). “For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.” (1 John 5:7- NKJV). It’s also important to note that Jesus Christ is the Word of God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us...” (John 1: 1,14- NKJV). Therefore we have the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and our relationship and yielding to all three must always be in balance. Too much centering on the goose-bumps and the sensation we get when the Holy Spirit is present through some sensational work of God is dangerous. If we’re not in God’s Word it can lead to us opening up to familiar or deceiving spirits. Too much centering on God’s Word with our intellect alone and without the aid of His Spirit, can lead to dead religion. Religion with no power; which we are experiencing now in many denominations. We must always rely on both. “It is the Spirit Who gives life [He is the Life-giver]; the flesh conveys no benefit whatever [there is no profit in it]. The words (truths) that I have been speaking to you are spirit and life.” John 6:63 (AMP) This is exactly why Jesus told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they received “the power” to discern and to walk in His Spirit (Acts 1:8). Have you receive the Holy Spirit with Power as these first disciples did on the day of Pentecost. “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:4 Yet even this awesome gift must be used and measure in balance with the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23). Remember everything needs balance!
