It is the end of a very busy day in the bowls world. Whether you agree or disagree with the opinions expressed in Jonathan Liew’s article is largely irrelevant. Ironically, his comments have done the game a favour by provoking healthy (mainly) debate from all corners of the bowls world. It is both heartening and encouraging to see that there are still so many passionate people involved with the game and that many of them have felt compelled to say something. There are not many sports which can boast the same level of commitment. Maybe some of his observations will give the game and its various authorities the opportunity to look inwardly and answer a few uncomfortable questions about its current state and its future. From grass roots to national level all input is equally important. It is that passion and commitment which gives me great belief that when it comes to the difficult decisions which will eventually have to be taken with regard to which direction the sport is heading and how we can guarantee its future for all to enjoy.
