It is time for me to say something about what has happened and is - TopicsExpress

It is time for me to say something about what has happened and is happening in Ferguson, Missouri. Ive been treated to various Facebook posts, emails, phone calls, etc. from mutual friends and even family and extended family who are all on one side of the issue. Some are from Ferguson and have strong feelings and opinions about the Michael Brown shooting and support Officer Darren Wilson and his actions. They feel they are on the right side of the issue. I wish Gods blessings on everyone, because none of us, only God, knows what is truly right. Id like to post my feelings in an effort to balance the scales a bit, and give a different perspective. I am from Ferguson. I grew up there and lived on Clarion Drive for 22 years, a street that intersects Canfield, the street where the shooting took place. As a kid I rode my bicycle along Canfield and through the streets there to Valley Winds Elementary, my school from 4th -6th grade. I never particularly liked living in that part of Ferguson, but I have a heart connection to it. I have strong feelings about what has happened too. I have tried very hard to remain open-minded. I do not think Michael Brown should have been shot to death. I am not convinced that so many bullets needed to pierce his body. I dont think he was a good kid and I realize he was behaving very very badly and deserved to be stopped, even by bullets if necessary and punished, etc. But he didnt need to be killed. After he was killed he was left face down on the street for 4 hours while the police stood off to the side and looked at him like he was a dead animal on the road. And now some describe the protestors and looters as animals. No wonder. I hate the looting, the fires, and destruction but I understand the anger. I can imagine anger that simmers from many years of racial bias and tension, attitudes, poor treatment, lack of peer representation in government and police. I get it. That doesnt make me right or wrong, just opinionated on the issue and exercising my right to share. I respect those who disagree, provided they remain respectful. — in Middletown, New Jersey.
