It is time to celebrate another marathon achievement by one of the stalwarts of WVU Cricket Club. Congratulations to Vijay Shankar Yalamanchi for reaching the milestone of 100 games for WVUCC. Vijay is only the third player ever to play a hundred games for WVUCC. Vijay started his contributions for WVUCC purely as a fielder. Soon he established himself as the best slip fielder produced by WVUCC. He showed sparks of talent with his bat soon and became an invaluable asset for his team with his guile in using the new ball. What started as an experiment soon became one of the deadliest moves for opposition batsmen. Controlling the new ball is hard enough for seamers; Vijay displayed amazing control and accuracy as a spinner. He soon reached 50 wickets and became so outstanding with his flight and changes of length that at times his figures seem quite unbelievable. Giving less than ten runs in five overs and picking up one or two wickets has become the norm for Vijay. His cricketing contribution aside, Vijay is one of the most committed players I have had the privilege of playing with in all these years (and believe me there are plenty of years I have seen). He is selfless and always puts the team and others ahead of himself. He never shies away from responsibility and his contributions towards team unity and morale cannot be put in words. It is befitting then, that he has played a hundred games for his team and apart from taking 50 wickets and scoring the fastest 50 in PCA he now finds his name among the legends of WVUCC. Congratulation to him!
