It is very difficult to express the deep ingrained issues that are within the African American community to those who are removed from.their reality. Those on the outside ask questions in an attempt to either dull or possibly understand the reality that is not theirs i truly believe the first step is to listen with the intent of true understanding. The plight of our youth is something they are born into without choice. You literally have to pay attention to your every word when you step out of your hood. Watch your hair, your language, you are in a state of trying to be good enough. Good enough for the jobs, the schools, the neighborhoods. Its more of ingrained issue. I am black but my mother is white and removed me from a harsh urban location. She also acted as if color did not exist which took away much of the psyche that others experience. There was a time in which my mom said to me you dont have to dress like you are going to african dance class everyday. How painful! Years of work it took to find balance with my mom. I can not take my skin off to be less african! I am african every day i exist. She exist in a world that accepts her as the alpha without knowing what it is to be in constant awareness that you must be something other than what you are. Jah dragged me here to Baltimore to show me another world up close and personal. Hopefully I can bridge some gaps during my life. One love family! The root is we are one!
