It is very disheartening when you hear about your own people going against the treaties in our territory. Today in court, I was really disturbed to hear words of treason. The crown prosecutor quoted Stephen Augustine in saying the Mikmaq warrior society is an anomaly, and is not sanctioned by the Mikmaq grand council who is the governing body of the Mikmaq nation for over 500 years There were gasps heard in the court room and many people were upset with the betrayal. Especially when it comes from a previously discredited witness for a treaty case in the past. One who claims to know history. When we have done our research too, and according to our research warrior chiefs and warrior captains were signatories to the treaties here in Mikmaki. Warrior societies have been around prior to colonialization, and are an intrinsic aspect to a nation. There is a lot of work that could be done if we worked together, and it is sad when you witness atrocious acts of contempt. Its time to put the lies down and seek the truth. Its okay to admit the treaty with the church is a lie and that our ancient treaties with other Lnu nations is the truth. Our treaty with creator is even more powerful, and that is my treaty. Our warriors are playing an important role in todays society as they were in the past both domestic and internationally. In case you havent been keeping up to date, their incarceration is part of the oppression we are facing against the state and is the same oppression other indigenous peoples are facing all over the world. Instead of condemning your own people in their assertion of nationhood you should join the fight against the system that seeks to destroy us. This year the UN permanent forum discussion was on nationhood, and next year is on political prisoners. Dont you see how important it is for the grand council to stand with the people? We the people are the ones sacrificing for our liberation. Mikmaq territory has the only two political prisoners of war in so called canada, and we have a big voice in this issue. Its time to rise! Know your treaty and defend your treaty. Know your ancient roots and aliances. We are a Warrior nation!
