It is very heartwarming to see that some of the Rescues in this area like Moonracer No Kill Animal Rescue Inc and Forgetmenot Inc. along with a couple of Facebook Pages, Picture Them Adopted and Support No Kill Manatee County are taking my lead and working to extend the reach of their networking to areas outside of Manatee County and Florida but this is not something that can be jumped into without covering all of the bases. Many transport services will not move a dog unless the Rescue is a 501 c 3 Rescue that has met their approval process. PTA and SNKMC ARE NOT accredited 501 c 3 Rescues no matter what they try to make everyone believe. In addition, it is always a good idea to have a letter of health from a Vet, All of the airlines will not allow a dog or cat to fly unless they have this letter. This is a good thing to do in case the dog or can has a medical issue that has not been discovered. Lastly, there are huge liability issues that must be considered. Many Shelter and Rescue animals have unknown backgrounds and while doing a 5 minute, quickie eval of an animal can be helpful it does not tell everything about the animal. Rescues run on very tight budgets sometimes operating out of their own homes and for a transport driver to be bitten or attacked or for a Rescuer to have that happen could open up a nightmare that a well-meaning Rescue might never recover from. It is wonderful to care about homeless animals and want to help. It is not good to blindly jump into it and do it recklessly so be careful and thanks for caring for the animals.
