It is very important, no matter your experience level, to make sure you are fully prepared for your hike. Some trails are quite secluded and do not get a lot of people hiking them on a daily basis. Before you head out, be sure to tell someone where youre going and when to expect your return. Bring a sufficient supply of food and water, and it is never a bad idea to bring along a first-aid kit just in case. Pay attention to signs along the trails which may warn of dangerous terrain and in some areas, you should be mindful of wild animals that may increase the potential of danger. If you find this may be a concern to you, consider travelling with a knife and/or wildlife repellent spray. I believe it is better to have and not need, rather than to need something that you may have considered bringing along but dismissed the idea for one reason or another.
