It is well known that when Labor was in power, the LNP’s condemnation of their asset sales/leases was unrelenting. LNP statements came from the now Premier Campbell Newman calling a lease ‘selling off the “silverware”‘. The Deputy Premier said a lease is ‘a sale’, a ‘sell-off’ and ‘sneaky’. Tim Nicholls, now Treasurer said a lease is ‘giving away the farm’. Nothing has altered since then, that leasing under the LNP could now be considered a “Smart Choice”! Further, due to the deceitful Strong Choices advertising, many people have no understanding of the true outcome of Treasurer Tim Nicholls’ plan where we retain ownership at the end of their planned Financial Lease arrangement. Cunningly, the LNP have not released the terms of the lease, but for confirmation of the ownership aspect you need go no further than an 8 Nov 2014 article in the Courier Mail i.e. “Treasurer Tim Nicholls, explains it like this: “We would expect that what happens in terms of those new assets when they come on stream, they will have a value – the government can either choose to take those back as part of the end-of-lease arrangements, that is they come back to us, or we can see an arrangement at the end of that lease that sees a value for those and the owners retain those. But normally, what we would expect to happen is they would come back as part of the lease when it returned to us, for a negotiated figure.” So, while we may well retain the right to take back ownership, WE will have to compensate the leasee for every bit of maintenance carried out and for any new infrastructure. At the end of a 50 year lease of the electricity industry, everything would have been replaced so I strongly suggest we will not be able to afford the “negotiated figure”, or the assets could have been rundown to the extent we also could not afford to take back ownership to fix the mess! Therefore the only logical move come election day is to number every square on your ballot paper & Put the LNP LAST!
