It is with a heart full of oblivious sadness that I share - TopicsExpress

It is with a heart full of oblivious sadness that I share this. Shauna just came stumbling out of the bedroom (its 2am) for a glass of water, eyes 3/4 closed, and told me that Flame (a.k.a. Flash, Comet Goldf I [we assume this was his legal name, as that is what it said on the Wal-Mart receipt) was quite dead. He was almost 4 years old. In goldfish years, that must be like 1600 years old or something. Ive never had one last more than a month or two. Flame just never wanted to shuffle off this coil. Curiously, I just fed him 10 minutes ago. In retrospect, and upon closer inspection after the news from Shauna, judging by how many fishy-food-pellets are waterlogged and have sunk to the bottom, I probably could have stopped feeding him about 4 days ago. Also, interestingly enough, it seems fish actually sink after floating belly-up for a while (after a day? 2 days?? The answer to that one will remain a mystery I suppose as we appear to have overlooked his inversion and mistaken it for fish-lethargy). Those who know us will know just how incredibly special he was to us. Feel free to join with us as we mourn. Its ok to send gifts of food (for the living, not Flame...hes not hungry anymore). Sigh. He was a great fish. A bit of a loner, though. Fortunately for us, he never seemed to want much attention. Unfortunately, now we have a smelly dead, sunken fish to clean up tomorrow. I guess he gets the last laugh! Ewe! #notthemostobservantfishowners
