It is with great pleasure that the editors of To Improve the Academy: A Journal of Educational Development (Laura Cruz, Gary Hawkins, and Abigail Wood) announce the publication of issue 33 (1), our first as an electronic journal. In case you are new to faculty/educational development, To Improve the Academy has long been the flagship journal for the POD network, but it was previously available only in book format. This inaugural electronic issue reflects the evolution of our field through the work of our outstanding contributors. In celebration of our inaugural issue, we are offering the following articles fully available to the public: Deandra Little, Reflections on the State of the Scholarship of Educational Development Michael S. Palmer, Dorothe J. Bach, & Adriana C. Streifer, Measuring the Promise: A Learning Focused Syllabus Rubric Krista Hoffman-Longtin, Megan M. Palmer, Julie L. Welch, Emily C. Walvoord, & Mary E. Dankoski, Just Ask: Using Faculty Input to Inform Communication Strategies Anne Kelsch & Joan Hawthorne, Preparing New Faculty for Leadership: Understanding and Addressing Needs Shelley L. Smith, Peer Collaboration: Improving Teaching through Comprehensive Peer Review onlinelibrary.wiley/doi/10.1002/tia2.2014.33.issue-1/issuetoc Future issues will be available to all POD members, as a benefit of membership, through the POD website or by institutional subscription to the Wiley on-line library. Individual articles will be available to purchase. If you are not already a member of POD, you are encouraged to join today so that you can continue to have access to the conversations, innovative research, and best practice that TIA provides (visit podnetwork.org for more information). In addition to the new format, long-time readers may note other improvements. * We have invited notable scholars from across the field to talk about the scholarship of educational development in a series of peer-reviewed invited essays, one of which will be included in each new issue. For issue 33(1), POD President-elect Deandra Little provides her cogent reflections on the state of the scholarship of educational development. * We will publish TIA two times per year; after this initial year the schedule will be January and June. * Articles included in TIA are now fully searchable and potential readers will be able to search for and access individual articles. * Articles included in TIA have easily portable citations, citation formats, and metrics. If you are doing interesting and innovative work in the field of the scholarship of educational development, we encourage you to submit your work to To Improve the Academy. Because of our new electronic format, we accept submissions 24/7, 365 days per year through our site located at mc.manuscriptcentral/toimprovetheacademy. If you have any questions or comments, please dont hesitate to contact the editorial staff, including Editor Laura Cruz ([email protected]), Associate Editor Gary Hawkins ([email protected]), and Assistant Editor Abigail Wood ([email protected]).
