It is with great sadness that I am posting the lost of another classmate, Arlis Marquardt. This is her obituary as posted in the Austin Daily Herald. Arlis Marie Clennon, 64 Published 9:58am Wednesday, May 28, 2014  Email This Post Comments Arlis Marie Clennon, 64, of Austin, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Clare Bridge Senior Living in Owatonna.  She was born Jan. 17, 1950, in Deadwood, S.D., to Rudolph H. and Gertrude P. (Lang) Marquardt. A 1968 graduate of Austin High School, Arlis attended Valparaiso University where she received her B.S. in Nursing in 1972. Hers was the first class to graduate with nursing degrees from Valparaiso University. She worked as a public health nurse, retiring from Mower County Public Health in 2004. On June 12, 1971, she was united in marriage to Stephen Joseph Clennon at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin. The couple raised three children. Arlis enjoyed traveling and exploring the outdoors, either walking or biking. She loved babies, gardening, reading, and was a beautiful quilter and crafter. A member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, she was a wonderful Sunday school teacher. Her greatest joy was being a mother, and she also very much enjoyed her job as a public health nurse. Survivors include her husband Stephen Clennon of Austin; her children Sean (Kathy) Clennon of St. Paul, Laura Clennon-Runia (Justin Runia) of Los Angeles, Calif., Rachel (Vincent) Clennon Puleo of Exeter, N.H.; four grandchildren, Garrett and Joseph Clennon, Elinor and Oskar Runia; three brothers, Jim (Charlotte) Marquardt of Winchester, Va., Clarence (Joanna) Marquardt of Wenatchee, Wash., Mark (Rebecca) Marquardt of Carrboro, N.C.; brothers-in-law, Arthur (Susan) Clennon of Spring, Texas, Bruce (Gwen) Clennon of Bruno, Minn., Mark (Bev) Clennon of Springfield, Minn., Jim (Mary) Clennon and Dan (Mary) Clennon, all of Austin, Mike (Sarah) Clennon of Byron, Minn., William Clennon of Austin, Jerome (Julie) Clennon of Rochester, and Tim (Marcia) Clennon of Sandstone, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Kathleen (Hugh) McPartlin of Summerville, S.C., Lisa (Dean) Johnson of Blooming Prairie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Gertrude; and her in-laws. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. Brian Krueger officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 13 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin. At Arlis’s request, her body is being donated to the Mayo Clinic Anatomical Research Program. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at worlein.
