It is with greatest concern we are reading about the Anguillian Government proposal to pass a new law allowing Jet Skies to operate in Anguilla. We first discovered Anguilla in 1981, as a young couple, and have been visiting in December/January every year since, over the years our family group has grown to 3 children with their friends and partners and now also 3 grandchildren. It is a long and costly journey from Europe, with overnight stays enroute, but for the Tranquillity Wrapped in Blue experience it is worth the long journey. Our visits to Anguilla is for at least 4 weeks, and renting a villa directly from an Anguillian owner, costing us in the region of $25,000 in addition to all the money spent in restaurants, car hire, boat transfers and supermarkets, our annual spendings soon mounts up to around US$50,000, or more, in addition to the costly airfares from Europe. One of the main attractions of Anguilla, is the Peace and Tranquillity. Introduction of the Jet Skies, will without a doubt scatter this peace, and we pray and hope the AHTA will be able to put a stop to these proposals. We are concerned about safety for swimmers and divers, as these will be very difficult to spot in the water. Although the proposal says these noisy Jet skies will only be permitted in certain zones, - who will police it? It will be very difficult to control persons going out of the zones, and zooming along at high speeds , for instance from Long Bay area to Meads Bay and Barnes Bay and further away. And what is there to control the jet skies onboard the yachts visiting, and where they decide to go? The Anguillian Government needs to be made aware of the wider picture, what attracts tourists to Anguilla is not noisy activities, but Peace and Transquility. Introducing Jet Skies will without a doubt, make the majority of the returning visitors to Anguilla and any new potential visitors seeking peace and tranquillity, re-assess their vacation habit and look to go elsewhere.
