It is with heavy heart I share bad news today about beautiful 11 year-old Kayla, maincoone female rescued from Devore in June. Kayla was shy and timit when rescued. It took her a month to come out of her shell and share affection. She has been in foster with me and doing wonderful with other kitties and people. She was finally ready to go to the adoption center in search of a forever home. She had an exam a few weeks ago and it was suggested she have a dental cleaning to remove excess plaque and check all her teeth. Yesterday I dropped her off for dental and recieved a call shortly after. Kayla had a huge tumor in her mouth affecting her jaw and airway. She was in pain and the tumor was an agressive non operable cancer already in her blood stream. With no hope for recovery or removal of the tumor I had to make the best decision for Kayla and let her go. It was very unexpected and I am still in shock. She was a WONDEFUL SWEET kitty who spent the last few months of her life sleeping on a bed surrounded by love and other rescue kitties. 11 year old cats are not top priority on rescue list as they are not easy to find a home for and they sometimes come with bad habits and expensive medical issues. I would have done whatever I could have to give this kitty a longer quality life but she was beyond my help. She was worth every moment of time spend and every dollar spend to save her life. Kayla was and will always be a special and loved kitty, as a good friend recently told me age is only a number. When adopting and rescuing animals please give a chance to an older one once in a wihle. You may find a gem like Kayla who will make you smile and touch you heart forever.
