It is with overwhelming sadness that we share with you that ABR’s Bailey has died. Some of you are familiar with Bailey’s story but for those of you that are not, Bailey was terminally ill when his loving foster mom, Michelle took him in. Bailey was found wandering a Florida cemetery, looking for food and love. A women was visiting the grave of her father when Bailey approached her, limping and thin, desperate for food and attention. The women felt so sorry for Bailey that she left and returned with food and water for this poor lost soul. A cold front was moving in so animal control was called to get him out of the elements! This is where ABR and Bailey’s foster mom, Michelle, stepped in. ABR picked him up from animal control and immediately got him the vet care he so desperately needed. Sadly the lifetime of neglect was more than his battered body could recover from. Bailey had a myriad of problems, worst of which was he was highly heartworm positive. His tired body would never be able to handle the difficult treatment that is required to eradicate the heartworms. Bailey started on various treatments to try and improve the quality of life he had left. In the end, we could not heal his body. But what his foster mom Michelle was able to do was to heal his soul. Baily’s time in his foster home was surely the best time of his life. Bailey knew love, devotion, kindness and fun. He felt the sun on his tired body with a tummy full of good food. He knew that he was never going to be abandoned again. He woke up every morning to the same loving family that he fell asleep to. But sadly all of this was not enough to save his life. Bailey passed away in the home he knew loved him. This is what our ABR family is all about. We go the extra mile, we care about our dogs, we reach beyond our own broken hearts to make a difference in the lives of these dogs. So today while we deeply mourn Bailey we celebrate the fact that Bailey left this world knowing that Michelle and the entire McGee family loved him and we celebrate this family who so selflessly gave of their own hearts and time. So today, look up at the sky, smile and tell Bailey we will never forget him.
