It is with saddened hearts that we have to tell you that Fritzy - TopicsExpress

It is with saddened hearts that we have to tell you that Fritzy crossed the Rainbow Bridge earlier this evening. This sweet, noble boy had been with us since August of 2011and he will be very much missed by our family and all of our friends and volunteers that have met and worked with him over the past few years. Fritz is what we refer to as a game changer doggie- regardless of what breed(s) of dog people used to prefer, theyd meet Fritz, and become converts and start learning more about the Deutsch Drahthaar breed. He was truly an amazing boy, and one of the most intelligent dogs we have been privileged to meet. He loved entertaining the other Rescued fur-kids, and playing Class Clown to dispel any tension between the doggies in the kennel. He was afraid of the dark, and was the reason we started the practice of leaving the lights on in the kennel back in NY 24/7, so that he wouldnt get scared. Ironically, even with his fear of the dark, he ADORED going for walks with Shane on star-lit nights, and would lie down on his back in the middle of the road to stargaze, pulling Shane down to the pavement or grass with him to share the view. He wouldnt let Shane get back up until he pointed out and named the constellations to him, of course re-naming the Big Dipper to the Big Fritzer, which he thought was pretty cool. Another of Fritzys favorite things to do was go on frequent car-rides with Shane, moon-roof open, and just be one of the boys. He especially loved going with Shane to his friend Cliffs house to play chess. Fritz carefully watched how Shane and Cliff played chess for about 3 months, and then one day when Cliff got up to grab a cup of coffee, Fritz jumped up in his chair, pushed a couple of pieces around, knocking them over with his paw, and when Shane jokingly told him that was an illegal move, Fritzy just barked as if to tell him that hed seen him do the same 100 times... He really was a smart boy and I swear, if he had thumbs, he probably couldve played a decent game of chess himself :) The one consolation with Fritzs passing today is that he had spent the whole day with our family, out for a ride enjoying the sunshine, and had appeared to be feeling happy and relaxed. Right before he passed away, Shane had checked on him and Fritzy jumped up in the passenger seat of our SUV as if he wanted to go for another ride. As Shane prepared to take him for quick ride before dinner, he had a seizure (the first hes ever had) and passed away despite Shane attempting to revive him afterward. He did not pass away alone, or in the dark- he was among friends and knows that he was loved. He will be missed :(
