It just came to our knowledge that a trigger-happy police officer attached to the Ayetoro Police Divisional Headquarters Yewa North Local Government Headquarters Ogun State shot at a commercial motor bike (okada) rider with a woman who had a baby striped to her back yesterday, 26th March, 2014. Painfully, the lactating mother died on the spot and the rider, whos been rushed to the hospital, was seriously wounded with bullets released from the police officers rifle. The gory incident occurred some meters away from Ayetoro Community Grammar School along Sala Orile Road at around 3.00pm. Ogun State Commissioner of Police and an Area Commander that coffers Yewa axis were said to have visited Ayetoro this morning, 27th March on a fact-finding mission we presume. For the attention of the Inspector General of Police, Mr Dahiru Abubakar, however, we want the trigger-happy police officer to be immediately arraigned and brought to justice. This is pure murder and not manslaughter. Nigerian constitution is clear about murder cases. This sort of ugly and barbaric incident is often referred to as police brutality. It happens only in Nigeria. We are vehement at saying that it should not be allowed to further dent the already spoilt image of the Nigerian Police by not being decisive because a police man is involved. Ayetoro is a peaceful ancient town populated by law abiding people. At the same time, the police should not try to urinate upon the collective intelligence of our people by sweeping this matter under the carpet. No! No!! No!!!
