It looks as though the Indian Wars were headed for what was hoped - TopicsExpress

It looks as though the Indian Wars were headed for what was hoped to be a settlement by means of a treaty. One that would be absolutely necessary if the Indians in the Rogue River Valley would be able to live in harmony with the whites. Harmony was not a word that was found in the miners dictionary, nor the Indians for that matter. As far as the Indians and their culture, very few white men took the time to study their culture. All they knew was that the Indian was a threat to their existence. And was at a boiling point. Murders of the Galice Creek miners, and the hanging of Chief Taylor (Taylor Creek) and his men for those murders; killing of settlers on Cow Creek; back and forth until it was felt that there was no other way to peacefully settle any differences. This chapter IX is titled: Murders Presage Revived Conflict.
