It looks like Keeneland will be getting the 2015 BC while going back to Santa Anita in 2016 and then going to Del Mar in 2017: paulickreport/news/the-biz/report-keeneland-hosting-2015-breeders-cup-16-to-santa-anita-17-at-del-mar/ The big question is, are these Breeders Cup being where they are scheduled contingent on installing lights? While Im not sure they would be public about this, I would think Comcast (parent of NBC-Universal) would make it clear with live sports the only thing that does well in the Saturday prime time TV ratings nowadays they want to be able to have the BC telecast air on NBC to 11:00 PM ET. Keeneland likely has to install lights for the 2015 BC anyway due to NBC wanting the BC Classic in prime time as it is and I would think that would be a condition of Santa Anita and Del Mar getting the 2016 and 17 BCs respectively as well. Before anyone complains about BC Ltd. shunning New York, it needs to be noted that NYRA is in NO position to bid for the BC until the laws in New York State are changed to permit nighttime thoroughbred racing due to NBC wanting at least the BC Classic in prime time. That is highly unlikely to change because of a powerful Harness Racing lobby that dates back to the days where this could never have been realistically thought of as possible that wont give an inch to protect their fiefdoms even if they dont realize how much the television and sports landscapes have changed in just the last year or two, not to mention the past decade.
