It looks like it won’t be very long until we get another Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Eric Eisenberg reports for Cinema Blend. Reports have surfaced saying that Disney Pictures is now planning to film the fifth installment in the franchise in Puerto Rico – instead of where they normally shoot, in Hawaii – and that production is looking to gear up in November. The news comes from Caribbean Business PR (via The Film Stage) which says that the studio chose Puerto Rico as the new location for filming due to the country’s “aggressive incentives” that they have been using to try and bring Hollywood to the island nation. The fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which doesn’t have a title yet, will be the biggest production held in the country. Parts of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides were filmed there, but almost all of the franchise has been shot on the islands of Hawaii. As you probably could have guessed, Johnny Depp will be coming back as Captain Jack Sparrow, and while no director has been hired yet Terry Rossio has been working on a script. In 2011, around the time On Stranger Tides was released, Depp said that he would be game for a fifth movie, but hoped that the studio would take its time with the franchise and make it “special.” If Disney does plan on making the fifth Pirates movie in November, then they have a lot of work to do. First and foremost they have to find a director to helm the thing, but they also surely need to work out a ton of casting contracts and sign on new actors for new roles (not to mention all of the previsualisation work and production design planning). Here’s hoping they have a plan.
