It matters not to me which party win the upcoming elections. I’m interested in Guyana’s socio-political and economic development. Part of our problem has to do with our administrative systems of governance along with some beliefs and behavior that has led to a desperate, divided and stagnant society – socially and economically. Just one example, the organizational structure of governance (the constitution) gives one man unfettered powers over all people. It is a rarity in the democratic world. The President basically hires and fires anyone from any branch of government, including the legislative. He doesn’t need to consult anyone, it is a discretion he/she has and can give and take as he/she sees fit. To make matters worse our 800 years old prorogation law was developed for the monarchs to use parliament as a mere rubber stamp. “Henry VII considered parliament to be little more than a necessary “rubber stamp”. He used his powers of summons and prorogation to call elected officials together just long enough to obtain their votes approving his policies and spending habits, following which they would be immediately sent away again until he needed them back for another round of voting in parliament.” lawnow.org/prorogation-forged-by-history/#sthash.6MOi9LYD.dpuf We need to hear more and which party is committing to doing what. Guyana needs more people who will vote according to issues and not follow blindly according to traditions. Ask your questions, Speak Up. You have the right to know the plans of who are going to form the next government.
