It may have begun with barges or a horse and cart but soon after 1881 trainloads of goods from all parts of the state were being exported from Fremantle. Initially from the Long Jetty at Bathers Beach and after the harbour was deepened from Victoria Quay. Huge railyards handled everything from wheat, livestock, sandlewood and passengers yet sadly now the traffic is mostly inwards utilising trucks and occasional train.
