It may look like squiggles and doodling to some people but Shorthand is one of the first skills and one of the most useful! I feel it is important in journalism but also a great skill for anyone in the media. Have you ever heard someone say: Is it really necessary to learn shorthand or I do not need to learn how write in shorthand because I do want to be a journalist but with with technology changing so much, is it a skill that more people in the media should be able to do. Shorthand is particularly useful to keep up when reporting on Government matters which may include Westminster, Holyrood, The Senedd or Stormont and also when reporting on court cases. The way that we use technology may be improving and we may be able to do more then ever before using technological devices but journalists still need to be able to write in shorthand and it is a vital skill.
