It may not look like much to *you,* but today I built this set of benches to mirror the ones on the other side of the bus....and FINALLY got the basket shelf hung up. It seems like I should have gotten so much more done, right? But I had to paint the wall beneath the shelf bracket (that black thing in the bottom of the pic), cut another small piece to attach the bracket to the shelf, in order to accomodate the steel lip at the bottom of the wall, sand it down, and glue & screw it to the shelf....then attach the bracket to the shelf and the shelf to the wall and the cabinet next to it. Oh yeah...and remember that cabinet? Turns out my wee bit of OCD couldnt let me sleep last night because I knew it was a *smidge* uneven...so it was taken down and rehung today, snug as a bug in a rug! :D I also attached brackets to the front cabinet door that will hang below the stove. You cant see that yet, because Im not done wood~burning it yet. And then there was the bench seats....and two very stubborn older screws that wouldnt come out, so I snapped on my handy hospital gloves (not really) and used the drill to perform surgery on them by digging them out of the wood...but these benches are SOLID! In fact, theyre much more solid than the first set I built, so Im thinking about that and wondering where I went wrong the first time around.... o.O Anyway, they arent going anywhere, thats for sure!!! I also repainted the front of the purple bookcase, just because it needed another coat, and attached some more lengths of trim along the floor in the bunk room. Oh, and just for your viewing pleasure...the last picture is a sneak peek of the pallet pieces we cut for our flooring. Theres so many beautiful buses online these days, and everyone seems to be staining and coloring their flooring pieces in amazing colors, but as soon as we laid these suckers down on the floor, Mikey and I both agreed they look like wood off a fishing dock. And we were sold! :D I found a man here in town who does woodworking and will put them through his heavy-duty sander (not a planer) and then well coat them in a clear wax coating for protection. Im really excited, since the front of the bus is mostly reds and purples and oranges...I think this driftwood-looking floor will be just the thing! :) And thats how I spent my Saturday. How was yours??
