It not about me, not really Its been over a year since I was let go from the music ministry at St. Luke. There are many things I could share they might help to understand how / why it went down. But its not about me. Some time ago I was invited to a house blessing for a member of the Filipino choir. I told her, yes, Id be honored to come; what can I bring? Is there something I can do? No, nothing to bring or do, just come. But it was how she started her invitation that I share with you now. She wanted to thank me for teaching them ~ well, basically I think for teaching them how to be members of a choir. She said no one works with them anymore, that my teaching has helped them continue their participation as members of the alto section, and thanked me for doing what I did. My response to her ~ it wasnt my teaching them, but about their desire to learn. Known for not putting too much thought before I speak, there was none needed for this. It was an honest response, realized in the moment. That the quality of teaching is only as good as a students desire to learn. That giving and receiving are only equal when reciprocated with respect. That the quality of any ministry is only as strong as a communitys willingness to accept it. I was blessed to have had that connection with such a community. We traveled a painful journey together, gave us a common story. KNOW that those of you who braved that Journey with me, carried me through that dark, sad time. I am forever grateful, eternally indebted to, and will always hold you close to my heart. Here, now, at this moment, its about what the St Luke community gave to me.
