It occurs to me some of you might have interest not only in weather but also what goes into storm coverage/planning. Will try to post some updates on both. First step today was to take the computer Ive been creating our new look graphics on, and convert it back to an operational machine. The new look graphics I think you will love - shows the weather in great detail - but they will have to wait until after the craziness. Another important step is coordinating coverage for the storm - ensuring our live crews will be in best positions to tell the weather story - safety is of utmost importance, and is why field crews always have the final call. Coordinating weather team schedule in the coming days important, too, to keep the on-air team as fresh as possible, while remaining immersed. Time was spent today coordinating with behind-the-scenes crews to ensure studio operations are smooth heading into tomorrow. Our NECN Engineering team was on-hand today, as well as most managers, as all were ensuring both equipment & plans were working smoothly. What is remarkable is that days of coverage require days of preparation, so events like this quite literally engulf life for all involved. All the while, Tim Kelley continued to get word out on-air, airing the latest data/updates. Youll see plenty more of him in days ahead. A weird one: I packed some Duracell AAA batteries from home to bring tomorrow, because weather clicker works better with them than others. On the big picture, you really cant totally blow a forecast like this. Huge storm. Tons of snow. Big wind. How you present it makes the difference. Perhaps the toughest part is turning your brain off to sleep - so essential to performance but elusive in the midst of necessary obsession. So, Im down to 4 hours of sleep...should probably put this away...& stare at the ceiling LOL...see you starting at 5AM tomorrow and 4AM Tue/Wed.
