It really DOES take a village. Sadly, we seem to be systematically destroying our villages in our zeal to worship at the altar of rugged individualism...which ironically, is destroying way too many precious individuals. Sure...the hearty few may survive and thrive...but at what cost? Is that the outcome we desire for our species? Are we really fans of the ideology that might makes right and that its a dog eat dog world? Do we genuinely believe in survival of the fittest as the natural blueprint? What about survival of the most creative, compassionate and cooperative? Where does that fit in to how we do ourselves? Because nature has gifted us new and better tools than lions and zebras possess—the tools of reason, compassion, love, opposable thumbs, imagination, self-aware consciousness—we hold within our species the power to do life in a more creative, conscious and compassionate way. To fall back on, survival of the fittest as an excuse NOT to care for one another is to shun the best of what makes us human. Lets celebrate and USE the best of what makes us human to its highest potential instead, and see where that leads!
