It really irks me when I hear Marines say that PT standards should - TopicsExpress

It really irks me when I hear Marines say that PT standards should be the same for male and female. Heres a quick lesson for ya. Men naturally have more muscle, including fast-twitch muscle that helps with things like (GASP) running faster, and less body fat than women. They also have this thing called testosterone that gives them more upper body strength, whereas women naturally have stronger lower bodies. The fastest/strongest woman will NEVER be as fast/strong as the fastest/strongest man. It genetics. I am by NO MEANS saying that females cant train to male standards, all Im saying is that a woman will have to train MUCH harder than a man to obtain those standards, so saying our scores should be equal to the males is unfair. Thats essentially saying the males should get the same scores as us for less work. Theres a reason the female PFT scores are different than the males, to keep things fair and to give females an equal shot at promotion as their male counterparts. Just because you saw that one female do 20 pull-ups or run 18 minutes, doesnt mean its the norm and she probably spends a LOT more time training for it than the average male who can run that fast. Just my two cents.
