It really is amazing to me that Shawn would have been 40 years old today and how quickly time flies by. I definitely have many great memories of him. One in particular is when Shawn, Ryan, Jason and I were all playing Mortal Kombat on the big TV in the play room. Ryan was strumming away on his Kramer guitar and I said, why don’t you teach Shawn how to play “Smells Like Teen Spirit” mind you were all listening to the Haddaway’s CD maxi single “What is Love” on repeat (with The Wall’s life time guarantee sticker…OK…it was mine lol). Shawn without a bat of an eye was like, “Sure I’ll try it!” and picked up Ryan’s guitar. It took Ryan almost 45 minutes to teach Shawn just how to properly hold his hands while switching between cords. Shawn wasn’t giving up. After about an hour and a half he painfully was able to make it through half way through the song with strums across the strings that sounded like Cheez It crackers breaking. Even though we had to go bed (it was 4AM) and he never finished the learning the opening he toughed it out until the end. This particular memory is a true testament to his character and spirit. Always looking to try something new without any reservations of how good or silly he might have looked. We should all take note of that and try to apply that to our own lives as it definitely made him one of the happiest and positive people I have ever known. He may not be here with us in person on what would have been his 40th year but his spirit, laugh and and memory live on. Love you buddy, miss you and sending you lots of Happy 40th Birthday wishes.
