It really upsets me to hear how ignorant people are about my name at Lynn University. I would think due to the so called diversity at my University I wouldnt have to worry about the racism and/or ignorance. My name has Indian origins, its meaning is Intelligent Woman. It is beautiful, it is unique, and it is classy. My name does define me, and it does fit me. My name is not ratchet, it is not ghetto, it is not black (not that anything is wrong with black names). What bothers me is people make assumptions based off of racist stereotypes, and it does hurt. If my name was Rebecca, Lisa, or any other stereotypical European name I am sure I wouldnt receive the ignorance that I do face every day. I advise some people to open up a book, and stop being so stupid. I really wonder if people have a problem with my name because it really sounds bad to them, or if its an ethnic name on a black woman.
