It seems everywhere I go people are wearing Crosses. Necklaces, earrings, tattoos...so many people today put on a Cross and go about their day without thinking anything about it. In Egypt recently, a woman was severely beaten, stomped, stabbed over 10 times in her back as she shielded her face and then her throat was cut all because she had a Cross hanging in the window of the car she was driving. She was on her way to deliver medicine to an elderly lady who was poor and had no money. Two very different instances where people have the Cross as a symbol of their faith. As I was reading in Isaiah the other day I came across a verse about Jesus. Even though He wouldnt be born for hundreds of more years, the way that He would be accepted was described in a pretty powerful and accurate passage. He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Isaiah 53:3 As we venture out today wearing our Cristian jewelry and sporting our Jesus bumper stickers, I pray we will remember that the freedom we have to do so is not so available in much of the rest of the world. Pray for those who are persecuted today for simply having a symbol of their faith close by.
