It seems humanity is facing a bit of a quandry. As our technological expertise increases almost logarithmically more is being done with far less human labor. A pointed indicator is the virtual total elimination of a majority of manufacturing jobs across industries. To those who say this is opening high tech jobs, I say even programming will soon be done by machines for machines, with humans only needed to develop the specification. As technology decreases the need for human labor it is increasing both birth rates and life spans, with some exceptions globally. Far from the golden age predicted by optimistic science fiction authors of decades past, it seems that the result of this progress is the super-concentration of wealth and power in a very small elite. When man no longer has to labor, it seems he may no longer be able to eat. Given the accelerating progression of this trend, what steps can we take now to avoid a really bad outcome later?
