It seems no one likes my quiz. Ok, here is some clarity. This new photo was taken from Blampied Place in Nelson and looking down at Nelson South and the well known Railway Reserve. There are strong voices in our community (especially from a well known politician) to build the so called Southern Link and redirect the heavy traffic from our scenic Rocks Road (which has been a transit route for over 100 years) through this community. With this demonstration I want to show you what the result of this nonsense would mean for Nelson South, Hospital Area and Bishopdale. The first image is the original photo and the second has been manipulated. I added some heavy trucks, logging trucks and few cars. Reasons to vote against this: 1. Traffic noise would travel unhindered across the whole area as the Railway Reserve is elevated and it is a proven fact that it can cause heart attacks and many other serious illnesses. A nice wake up in the morning too. 2. Nelson South is in Airshed A and historically has had the poorest air quality in Nelson (Nelson RMP). The traffic fumes would add to it enormously. 3. People could use alternatives like public transport or bike to work via the Railway Reserve. And its a nice bike trail too. 4. Do not put it on those ones who can not defend themselves as this neighbourhood is known to be a low-income family suburb. There are hundreds other good reasons not to do it and many options to fix the problems that exist. What can you do? Do not ignore it, your neighbourhood could be next and share this with your friends.
