It seems that Environment Canada and others are taking some inspiration from our project. They and their partners are setting up a high-er resolution weather station network to provide better data for forecasts during the Toronto 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games. Im sure they are also using this to do a lot of other research on higher resolution weather observation and modelling. I wonder if they will be presenting live observational maps weather conditions around Toronto and the observed area. Their MESONET includes 55 weather stations. Ive listed most of their bullet points below. • Collect and report weather information such as temperature, humidity, air pressure, wind speed and direction, precipitation, and air quality data at different locations around the Games areas; • Collect and report weather data once every minute; • Include a thermometer inside a black globe to estimate human body temperature and heat stress loads on the competitors and the public; • Improve detection of lake breezes, which can in turn improve the prediction of hazardous air quality, thunderstorms, lightning and severe weather events like tornadoes; • Are housed at sites ranging from atop the former Maple Leaf Gardens building to floating on Lake Ontario. There will even be a mobile weather station – known as the Automated Mobile Meteorological Observing System (AMMOS) – driving through local neighbourhoods; pch.gc.ca/eng/1407440327326
