It seems to me that once Ms. Stritch retired, that she knew she needed to rest. That all that glory and all that fight and all that joy and rage and pain and hilarity, was better spent somewhere else. She had done it here. She had been in the middle of her battle here and had stood up clean here and she lived it truthfully and boldly here. For us. Here. She drank and she gambled and she left us with a life lived on the edgiest of edges. She teetered and she floundered and she did it all with great aplomb and style. She had guts. She had bravado, And she had an unbreakable spirit and a direct line into my own personal existence. I felt her deeply and I followed her religiously. I will miss her. But I know she knew. She knew her Art and her Life married. They were never far apart and thus she released herself freely and totally into our waiting arms. Sometimes with a growl. Sometimes with a purr. But always into a safe place where she let go and let God. I believe once she retired, she knew. She knew would go home to rest. Finally. Peacefully. And with a grand and gracious exit. Heres to the Lady...
