It stood there, all glistening in the southern Barbados evening sun, but 19 men from Scarborough werent scared of it and set about to conquer the greasy pole through cooperation. On the first day of the three-day Oistins Fish Festival, the Christ Church young men slid and slithered as they made themselves into human rungs of a ladder, enabling Marvin Bourne to clamber on their backs, and painstaking pull himself up the remaining four feet to conquer the slippery pole. For their marvelous display of team effort, the men collected the $700 prize and vowed to repeat the feat at the second greasy pole challenge tomorrow, while challenging anyone or group to take them on.
