It sucks to lose someone who has had a profound impact on your life...and it sucks even more to have lost touch with that person before they passed...I never got the chance to thank Rick for everything. He passed this morning. Rick Naiser was one of my mentors as an audio engineer back in the day...he gave me my first break in the music business when no one else would...he was a good friend with a big heart and he was an amazingly talented audio engineer...he took me under his wing and taught me how to be a damn good audio engineer. He really took the time to help everyone expand their knowledge and skills and I learned so much under him at Festival Recording Studios, and had such a blast doing it...many of the best times of my life!! I will never forget the opportunities he afforded me working with some world-class artists and musicians, the fun times and super-long hours we shared at Festival, working Louisiana Jukebox Live every Thursday, the various gigs and studio installs, jammin upstairs, times at his house, and out in his boat.... In particular, I remember the time we lugged a full size Sony console (and the rest of the studio, too) into the attic of the New Orleans Orpheum Theater to do this live recording of the Govt Mule show...I was pissed at the time, because it was a nightmare getting up there and set-up...but, we had such an incredible time that night, I dont even remember moving the console down...TRULY one of the greatest experiences of my life.... I wish I could have thanked him. I never got that chance. But, I would have really liked for him to know that he is truly a part of the person that I am today. RIP, old friend!!! May you find everlasting peace.......
