It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent Fritters. Todays film is a bizarre little Grand-Guignol-style camp classic that manages to work amazingly well despite its outrageous premise thanks to an excellent cast, some genuinely gruesome bits, and a heaping helping of black humor. The low budget and macabre nature of the film belies the fact that it features such great actors and that is highlighted by Rory Calhouns memorable turn as Farmer Vincent. Like Chuck Connors in Tourist Trap and the trio of Palance, Pleasance, and Landau in Alone in the Dark, this is another unique opportunity to see a respected screen legend in the autumn of his career giving an amusing performance in an unlikely role. Theres some enjoyable satirizing of films like Psycho and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre - one of those moments is a totally zany chainsaw duel that is sure to carve an indelible image into your brain.
