It took 40 minutes to replace the lifeguard tower at Honolii - TopicsExpress

It took 40 minutes to replace the lifeguard tower at Honolii earlier this week. Due to the terrain and location of the beach park a helicopter was needed to remove the old tower and deliver the new one. Ocean Safety officials had to clear the water from Mids to Privates and moved surfers over to the Point while also clearing a portion of the parking area up above. The new lifeguard tower is bigger than the old one and had to be positioned in a slightly different location. A red picnic table now stands where the old tower used to be. Honolii is the second to the last beach park in the state to receive a new tower. The last is at 4 miles in Keaukaha where the logistics are a bit more complicated. Currently the plan is to drop the new tower in an area which is in an inundation zone. Ocean safety finds that problematic and is hoping to find a solution that is amenable to all. Video: Rocky Rock
