It took one year, and one litter of puppies (unfortunately) before this family realized the advantages of getting a free spay for their dog. Already struggling to feed Mom, a litter of puppies certainly wasnt helpful to an already compromised situation. If you cant feed one, how will you feed 10? She got pregnant on the end of a chain, nursed her puppies in a pile of dirt and would have been bred again if not for our repeated dedication to making unsolicited visits. A relative of this client had seen the benefits his dog got as a result of spaying-both behaviorally and health-wise. He then spread that knowledge to his family, encouraging them to do the same for their dog. Thats the power of effective outreach. We still have work to do here, but at least we wont be facing 12 puppies with a lactating mother in the snow this season.
