It took over 24 months, a tendon surgery, a Baclofen pump implant, painful orthotic braces & stretching, and botox & phenol injections for Emily to be able to move her ankle again. Today we spent time trying to learn how to lift her heels off the floor with her toes still touching. We also worked on wiggling her toes, to very little success. The brain damage that she suffered from smoking K2 affects so many parts of her body, its overwhelming to work on each piece of the puzzle. When she concentrates on trying to move her toes, her fingers curl and uncurl. Its all jumbled up there in her head. We saw the endocrinologist today, who asked if she is taking B12. She told us that it helps with cell and nerve regeneration. Whoa! I wish we had known that sooner. But yet another glimmer of hope for help with her body, and we are thankful for it. Grandma had been coming over regularly to help us with therapy at home over the past few weeks. Well, sadly Grandma fell taking her younger grand kids ice skating and broke her wrist in several places yesterday. So she is out for a bit. Everything happens for a reason, we continue to go with the flow. When I sat today and realized just how much work it took to just get Emilys ankles moving again, I realize what a big job we still have ahead of us. It makes me realize with time, perseverance, and hard work everything is possible ahead for her. Just wanted to give everyone a small glimpse into our world today.
