It was 12 years ago that my Dad woke me up to tell me about a plane flying into the trade center. He was adamant about me getting out of bed and checking it out on TV, so I did. I got up and sat down with him in front of the TV and watched the horror unfold. Moments later the other tower was struck by the other plane. I remembered that I actually laughed in shock and then immediately realized how many people just died. We were aghast at the carnage and we actually both had tears in our eyes at the thought of all those who were there, and all those who were watching it happen. We spent the next hours watching it all unfold and talking and praying and being thankful that we were together and safe. I remember feeling something akin to guilt that our family and friends were all alive and well but so many fellow Americans were facing the worst crisis in their lives. I am thankful for this memory. My father and I were pretty close already but this just made us even closer. It was only a few years later that he passed away and I still miss him very much. On the anniversary of this tragic date (9-11) I always think of us sitting in front of that TV watching this tragedy unfold and I will always remember exactly where I was, who I was with, and what we were doing on that fateful morning all those years ago.
