It was 22 degrees at 7:15am this morning, when I went out to load up the bird feeders. My resident Chickadees try to land on the feeders, as I am walking to the hanger areas to set up the feed stations. I have suet feeders hung up high, to keep the bear from taking them, and the Hairy and Downy woodpeckers are already busy feeding. My flock of Mourning doves are perched in the hemlock trees in the lower yard, waiting for me to spread cracked corn at the base of the trees and get out of the way. Last night after dark, Chris found a Common Redpole finch hunched behind the outside butt container on the front stoop. He brought it in and placed it in a small box in his room for the night to warm it up. This morning we will check it over and let it out with the rest of the finches that are feeding in the lower yard this morning. Time to get going. Later.
