It was Aug 26, 1913 when the American flag was first raised on the Makah Indian Reservation and President Woodrow Wilson addressed the people by transmission of a phonograph. The flag is raised each Makah Days by the descendents of the original Makah flag-raisers. It was June 2, 1924 when American citizenship was granted to all American Indians. These two events were combined and thereafter Makah Days has been celebrated on the weekend closest to the 26th of August each year.
