It was January and the Spring Semester had just started at TCJC - TopicsExpress

It was January and the Spring Semester had just started at TCJC (now TCC). I was 9 months pregnant and my Business Communications class had already done a chalk outline of my stomach on the chalk board with vows to repeat the procedure every class until I went into labor so they could visibly measure my “growth”. I tried to tell them they wouldnt get many chances … you and I had a plan! Monday the 16th was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and school was closed and I had no Tuesday classes, soooooo …. If you were up for doing mommy a favor it would be great if you were born over the Holiday weekend so I didnt miss any of my classes. Lol. Your dad was game to do his part if it meant we got to hold you and play with you sooner, so he cooked up a batch of especially spicy Mexi-corn on Sunday night because we read that spicy foods could induce labor. We went for a walk around the neighborhood after dinner because we also read that walking could help with labor. Now, these are popular old wives tales and they make an anxious pregnant mom feel like she is doing something but I didnt REALLY believe they actual would work. UNTIL! I was walking upstairs to get ready for bed and I felt something. I waited and sure enough, it came again! Your dad and I anxiously timed the contractions that were building and when they proved to be steady we called your Nana Suzie. She came over right away and drove all of us to the hospital. Your big brother Johnny was picked up by a family member before we left for the hospital, but your big brother Lane came with us. He would be picked up at the hospital by a different family member. So, RIGHT after we were checked into my birthing room, I was still waiting for them to pull out my gown and turn back my bed, my water broke! We all stood around looking at the puddle around my feet and suddenly your brother spoke up (only 2 at the time) and said loud and sweet, “Mommy needs a diaper!” We all laughed. You didnt come for about another 12 hours or so, it was hard work for us that night and morning, but there was laughter and excitement that we were finally getting to meet the newest addition to our family. And as we worked through the night, you and I built a bond. A bond that no one will EVER be able to take or replace, or even understand completely, besides you and me. From before the moment you were born, I have known you and I have loved you. After you were born I got to know you even more. You were the sweetest, calmest, most lovable baby. I can’t remember your smile leaving your face very often. Such a big, beautiful, pure smile. It lit up a room. It still does! You listened as I read you text books (in fairy-tale voices) instead of actual fairy tales, and actually seemed amused. smile emoticon You watched with curiosity as we worked to potty train your brothers. You were up to cuddle with ANYONE watching TV on the couch! You were just happy to hang out with your family. And to look at you today … to see our many common traits, both the physical and in our personalities; to hang out with you today and feel the same peaceful calm we used to share so many years ago; I know our bond is very, very special and it always will be. I have loved you since before I met you … that very, very special day, in January of 1995. I have loved you every day of your life since, whether we could be together that day or not, AND …. I will NEVER stop loving you! Happy Birthday my beautiful, smart, sweet and loving youngest son, Josh! Thank you for being in mommy’s life, thank you for being you. Hope the rest of your day is the best! Enjoy your Birthday video sweetie. Just a quick sprint down memory lane .... https://youtube/watch?v=tDg9XcUeYFs&feature=youtu.be
