It was a blog free week last week…but all good things come to an end. Normal service will now be resumed until the end of the season. For those that are interested, and even those that are not, I was taking a golfing break with Mrs Match Sec in Tenerife at a time where the weather was just as good as it’s been back home. We drew our overall “match” 6-6 but only due to a series of lucky long range putts from my wife and a series of unlucky bounces for me. You know how it is guys – you hit the ball into a 100 ft ravine and it doesn’t bounce back when it really should. Tragic. So who’s been winning what over the past few weeks: * The 3 Club Challenge was won by Russell Henderson with an outstanding nett 61 – equal to his best nett score of the year. Russell’s now got 11 golf clubs to sell since he clearly doesn’t need them / can’t use them. He’ll also be in need of a smaller golf bag. * Rounds 10 and 11 of the Summer League were won by Alan Rhind and Andy Allan respectively. But David Morrison still heads the overall League with 6 Rounds to go. * Last Saturday’s Invitational Foursome was won by local boys Andrew Stewart and Eric Wilson. Well done guys. It was also good to see our Club Secretary Trevor Abell making another appearance on the Leader Board after his recent success in the Gents Senior Open. * There was a small field in Round 2 of the Mixed Foursomes on Sunday – you were probably all busy watching Rory McIlroy win the Open on TV. Nevertheless, congratulations to Lilian Milroy and John Sutherland who came out on top on the day. * The winners of the last two Ladies competitions were Carol Thomson (Charity Stableford) and Margaret Cairns (Ladies Charity Trophy). Enough of the past, what’s coming up over the next week (besides the opening of Dawn of Planet of the Apes…must see!) Saturday’s Gents Medal is the Dunning Hotel Cup. The weather forecast is promising and you’ll have more than enough time to play in between all the Commonwealth Games activity. The following weekend – Saturday 2nd August – is our third Major, the Dunning Gents Open. The template is open already, as you probably know, so book now and leave your £12 entry fee in an envelope with the Starter. It’s also a great chance to bring a golfing friend to play Dunning and see the course at its very best (and most difficult). In between time, Monday 28th July provides an opportunity for the young Seniors (over 55’s) to compete with the regular Seniors (over 60’s) for the J Craigon Trophy. It will be interesting to see how the youngsters get on. Enjoy your golf at Dunning and avoid those ravines! Alan Hill Match and Handicap Secretary
