It was a great, albeit long, day for Parkland volleyball as the team kicked off the 2014 NJCAA National Championships in Phoenix, Arizona. After their 3-1 win over MCC-Longview, the Cobras squared off against a tough DMACC team who was coming off a big win over 2012 champions, Grand Rapids Community College in their first round. On one side of the gym, the Cobras faced off with #8 Des Moines Area CC (Iowa) in one quarterfinal while #4 Pasco Hernando State College squared off with #5 Columbus State Community College. On court 1 PC matched their earlier victory (Oct. 11th) against DMACC by once again defeating them 3-1 in scores of 25-18, 25-21, 26-28, 25-20. VanBeek and Flaws each racked up 13 kills while Dahlke, Barnard and Jackson had 7 each. The block was huge this match as VanBeek had 13, Jackson had 7, and Barnard and Rowan Crozier had 6 each. Four Cobras had double-digit digs with Hunt (17), Barnard (15), Hickman (14) and Madison Harpest notched 11. Hickman had 26 assists and Weldon 18. The Cobras improved to 53-2 on the season and advance to the Final Four with a national semifinal match vs #5 Columbus State CC at 7:30pm Illinois time on Friday.
