It was a lovely write up by a FB friend Jey Anand who encountered a weird occurance of being gifted with Rs. 500 for no reason by some people of the Jain community who were in a procession.. It was about a girl who was renouncing the materialistic world in order to free her self from the shackles of greed and perform the Diksha process and become a sanyasini. In the yesteryears these rituals used to happen in the Native villages of the person taking up sagehood .. but now as many families are grounded deep in the cities , the same is also performed here. The idea is that the person who is renouncing the world of materialism for become a sage has to give up all her acquired or inherited wealth in charity, alms, and donations or simply to the needy. The ritual now has got a cosmopolitan twist and the relatives of the said person distribute part of the liquid wealth in a procession of the town she has to undertake.. to any and sundry on the road. The same can be used for charity by the receiver or even benefit personally if so needed. Perhaps many who are not aware of the ritual found it crazy to be at the receiving end :-)
